This object is part of the Behind the Lacrimarium set of multidsciplinary art that explores the nature and science of crying, grieving, and perseverance.

The project aims to remove the shame associated with our deepest, most uncomfortable feelings and instead build reselience and community by normalizing ALL the aspects of grieving, reconciliation, and moving forth into the present and future.

In creating the art, we asked the following questions:

  • What if when we feel sad and need to cry, what if we just did it, no matter where or when we were? With no shame?
  • What if we never had to cry alone? What if there was a place you could go when you are feeling your most disconsolate?
  • What if we were taught how to cry the same way we are taught to sing, laugh, and breathe deeply and meditatively?
