“What is an Assemblage?” poster

This diagram describes the concept of Assemblage from the work of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari. The lower panel illustrates the data assemblage of the famous hockey stick graph that shows how human activities have contributed to accelerating climate change.

In 2021 Marc made a series of 4 diagrams for a book called Critical Visualization (Bloomsbury,2022) by Peter A. Hall and Patricio Davila. As the title suggests, this work takes an in depth look at how data is presented and how the viewer of visualizations can understand and accommodate for the inevitably biased systems that produce the data and its representations. It is filled with case studies of existing data visualizations as well as detailed commentary on their significance to the books themes. The four diagrams were designed to augment the author’s ideas and were commissioned specifically for this work. Read more about this project here.
